Uncovering Decoloniality in EAP: Transforming Language and Power in Academic Spaces
Kashmir Kaur and Olive Nabukeera
This research project investigates the conceptualisation of decoloniality in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), recognising its significance in challenging the dominance of English and fostering more inclusive, equitable learning environments for students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Its aims are to raise awareness of decoloniality in EAP, explore current levels of understanding and implementation in classrooms and curricula, stimulate discussion on its meaning, and facilitate its application in EAP settings.
Using questionnaire surveys, focus groups, and one-to-one semi-structured interviews, the study has completed data collection and is now in the analysis stage, supported by seedcorn funding from PRiA.
To date, preliminary findings have been shared at the LC Forum “EAP at the Crossroads: Reflection, Resistance and Reimagination” (July 2025), and preparations are underway for a December 2025 symposium, with funding already secured from LCS Research.
