Speechub

Speechhub https://campuspress.leeds.ac.uk/speechhub/ is an Open Educational Recourse. The idea is to provide a community interpreter training resource. The concept is simple: a platform where people can access range of pedagogical speeches, on many different topics, in a variety of languages, in order to practice interpreting. Anyone can contribute to the resource by submitting a recording themselves.

Whilst other speech repositories exist, many of them are managed by large institutions and there is a need for an independent, community-based resource that everyone can contribute to.

The site is hosted by The University of Leeds but our objective is that this open education resource belongs to those who use and contribute to it, worldwide. Many of our students, tutors, and alumni in interpreting from Leeds have contributed and the site continues to grow.

My plan is to use the resource to develop an empirically tested method for gauging the difficulty of a pedagogical interpreting speech.
