Investigating In-sessional Impact in “hard” science disciplines – Jane Templeton
Investigating In-sessional Impact in “hard” science disciplines – Jane Templeton – j.templeton@leeds.ac.uk
This project forms part of a wider scholarship endeavour which aims to measure and evaluate the impact of in-sessional EAP provision across the University. EAP teaching at PGT level has recently been adopted in all schools in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Several of these academic disciplines are distinct both in content and epistemology from what might be considered more typical or familiar disciplines from an EAP perspective.
The project therefore seeks to explore a) the conceptualisation of the impact of insessional delivery in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, where I am currently based; and b) which models of delivery might achieve these impacts. By means of a two-pronged investigation, comprising an institution-external scoping exercise and an institution-internal series of questionnaire-led interviews with School stakeholders, I hope to achieve a greater sense of how insessional EAP provision is thought about in this hard science discipline, and the expectations around it.
