Principles and Guidelines for Integrating Regional Dialectal Variation in the Arabic Classroom - new publication by Dr Rasha Soliman & Dr Melissa Towler

Date

Congratulations to Dr Rasha Soliman, Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Linguistics & Deputy Head of the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, and her collaborator Dr Melissa Towler, Postdoctoral Research Assistant, on their recent publication "Principles and Guidelines for Integrating Regional Dialectal Variation in the Arabic Classroom", in collaboration with Qatar Foundation International!

Rasha and Melissa have produced these guidelines based on their research within the Arabic teaching community in UK schools, investigating teachers’ beliefs and approaches to the integration of different Arabic varieties in their teaching. There is currently a lack of guidance on how to approach language variation in teaching Arabic, especially for teachers who teach only in fuSHa for the purpose of passing formal examinations. This new publication directly addresses that gap by providing information on how to raise awareness of variation, including practical examples.

This important new publication is available open-access in both English and Arabic.
