Congratulations to Dr Rasha Soliman (Associate Professor of Arabic Language and Linguistics & Deputy Head of the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies) and Sascha Stollhans (Associate Professor of Language Pedagogies & Director of CELT) on the launch of their new Special Interest Group "Pedagogical approaches to language variation", hosted by the Association of University Language Communities in the UK and Ireland (AULC).

This new Special Interest Group (SIG) aims to create a platform for all language educators and programme designers to share good practice on pedagogical approaches to language variation. The last two decades have witnessed growing research on the importance of raising learners' awareness and comprehension skills of linguistic variation; however, little focus has been given to the practicalities of integrating linguistic variation in teaching. This SIG aims to create a repository of research, teaching materials and ideas on how to integrate linguistic variation in teaching and assessment.

As a first step, Rasha and Sascha are going to create a mailing list and organise an inaugural meeting. Colleagues who would like to join the SIG are invited to register their interest via this short form.
