Webinar: Let's talk about language - how linguistics can enrich language learning (with Linguascope)

Date
Date
Tuesday 17 October 2023, 19:00 - 20:00
Location
Zoom

In this webinar, organised in collaboration with Linguascope, Sascha Stollhans (Associate Professor of Language Pedagogies & Director of CELT) will introduce some concepts from linguistics research and showcase how these can be used to create engaging and motivating activities for the language classroom. He will demonstrate how linguistics can help us create a more diverse and inclusive approach to language teaching and learning.
By introducing students to the study of linguistics we encourage them to reflect on language in new ways and examine language as a culturally rich object of study in its own right. In particular, Sascha will focus on materials that help students think about language as a diverse, dynamic and ever-changing phenomenon.
To exemplify this, Sascha will talk about linguistic variation (dialects, slang, online communication) as well as gender-inclusive language, and consider how these aspects could be incorporated into our teaching.
The activities we will discuss are designed for intermediate learners of French, German and Spanish, but we will also consider other languages and levels.

All welcome! Participation is free, but registration is required.
